Alvarez sets school record for consecutive games with a hit at 12.

RENO, Nev. (5/8/2010) - Boise State University's softball team capped off the 2010 regular season with a dominating performance on the road in Reno, Nev., defeating the University of Nevada 11-0 Saturday afternoon. The Broncos opened the game fast with four runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. They added a fifth in the second inning, two more in the fourth, and four in the seventh to clinch the lopsided victory.

The highlight of the day was freshman Vanessa Alvarez who set a new school record for consecutive games with a hit with one today to extend her hitting streak to 12 games. Kathy Cox and Holly Bourke led the Broncos with three hits apiece. Cox recorded two RBIs and scored three runs while Bourke had one each. Sophomore Aubray Zell pitched a complete game to recorded the shutout victory and move her record to 9-8 on the season.

For the Broncos the victory gave them the series two games to one over the Wolf Pack, as well as, their fifth series victory out of seven in Western Athletic Conference play. It also gave the second-year program a 26-30 overall mark and a 13-8 league record good for third-place in the final conference standings. The loss dropped Nevada to 17-28 overall and 4-16 in WAC play.

The Broncos will have a short turnaround as they will head-off to the 2010 WAC Championship Tournament this coming week in Las Cruces, N.M. It looks like Boise State will open with the host school New Mexico State University at 7:00 p.m. (Mountain) on Wednesday, May 12th.
