FRESNO, Calif. The inaugural season came to an end on Thursday with a 10-2 to Hawaii in the WAC Tournament. The Broncos (22-30) lost for the fourth time this week to the Rainbow Wahine (30-23), who swept the regular season series last weekend in Honolulu.
The Rainbow Wahine came out of the gates firing. Tanisha Milca led off the game with a home run to left field. Milca was 3-for-4 on the day with three RBI to lead the Rainbow Wahine. Stephanie Ricketts scattered four hits over five innings of work, allowing two runs (one earned). The Wahine scored in every inning except for the second, including a four run third inning that gave them a 6-0 lead.
The Broncos two runs came in the bottom of the fifth. Kellie Caplan led off the inning with a single and came into score on Lexi Straton’s one-out double to right center. Straton later scored on an error. Ricketts retired the Broncos without allowing another run to give the Wahine the abbreviated victory.
The Broncos finished the regular season as the seventh seed in the WAC and went 1-2 in the WAC Tournament. The Broncos will hit the diamond again in February 2010 for their sophomore season.
