Among The National Leaders
Through April 30, Boise State ranked 24th in batting (.314).
Individually, Rebekah Cervantes is 57th in batting average (.407).
In the circle, freshman Kelsey Broadus ranks 13th in strikeouts per seven innings pitched (9.4), 29th in hits per seven innings (4.57) and 34th in the country with three saves.
McGill and Serrano hold special distinction as the only four-year seniors among this year’s class.
Over her four years in Boise, Serrano, a Garden Grove, Calif., native, steadily worked her way into the Bronco starting lineup and now is one of the most consistent bats on offense. Serrano is batting .309 this season with 42 hits (tied for fourth on the team), and in conference play (18 games) is second among her teammates with a .351 average and leads the Broncos with 20 hits.
After batting .200 over 35 games (nine starts) as a freshman in 2014, Serrano improved to .286 as a sophomore while starting 30 of the 42 games in which she appeared. She followed that up by batting .325 last year with the first two home runs of her career before starting 41 of 42 games for the Broncos this season.
McGill, despite being limited by injuries during much of her career, has continued to provide leadership and toughness for the Broncos. She went 5-4 as a freshman in 2014 before winning three games in both 2015 and 2016, tossing a pair of complete games each season.
