BOISE, Idaho - Boise State (25-17, 7-11 MW) closes its 2017 home slate this weekend, hosting Nevada for a three-game Mountain West series. The series gets underway Friday at 4 p.m., with Saturday’s first pitch also set for 4 p.m. before Sunday’s noon finale at Dona Larsen Park.

    About The Opposition
Nevada (26-19, 11-7 MW) has won five of its last seven and most recently swept Colorado State to work its way to just a game back of Mountain West co-leaders Utah State and San Jose State.

The Wolf Pack is led at the plate by Aaliyah Gibson (.353, seven doubles, seven triples, two HRs, 26 RBI) and Erika Hansen (.316, 11 doubles, 10 HRs, 49 RBIs).

In the circle, McKenna Isenberg is 16-10 with a 4.02 ERA and 157 strikeouts while Kali Sargent is 7-7 with a 4.71 ERA.

Boise State is 14-9 all-time against Nevada.

    Last Time Out
Boise State dropped two of three games against San Diego State in its last action back from April 21-23. The Broncos captured the opener, 6-4, but fell in the next two games, 14-0 (in five innings) and 10-6, respectively.

Sophomore Morgan Lamb batted .667 (6-for-9) over the series with a home run and three RBIs, while senior Izzy Serrano had five hits, including a 3-for-3 performance in the opener against the Aztecs.

Christina Washington picked up her 14th victory of the campaign in the opener, striking out four over 6.2 innings in the 6-4 win.

    Among The National Leaders
Boise State has produced some big numbers on both offense and defense, and gotten the Broncos among the national leaders in numerous categories.

Through April 30, Boise State ranked 24th in batting (.314).

Individually, Rebekah Cervantes is 57th in batting average (.407).

In the circle, freshman Kelsey Broadus ranks 13th in strikeouts per seven innings pitched (9.4), 29th in hits per seven innings (4.57) and 34th in the country with three saves.

    Senior Sendoff
This weekend’s series against Nevada will also serves as Boise State’s senior weekend, marking the final home weekend for seven seniors: Cassidy Edwards, Corey Hendrickson, Mackenzie McGill, Izzy Serrano, Kaitlyn Shreves, Tatiana Sorokina and Christina Washington.

McGill and Serrano hold special distinction as the only four-year seniors among this year’s class.

    Been Awhile
Friday’s game against Nevada will mark Boise State’s return to action after a 12-day layoff. The Broncos had a bye last weekend, and a scheduled doubleheader at Idaho State for April 28 was washed out and canceled.

    Senior Class
Among Boise State’s seven-member senior class playing their final games at Dona Larsen Park this weekend are outfielder Izzy Serrano and pitcher Mackenzie McGill, the only four-year seniors in the class.

Over her four years in Boise, Serrano, a Garden Grove, Calif., native, steadily worked her way into the Bronco starting lineup and now is one of the most consistent bats on offense. Serrano is batting .309 this season with 42 hits (tied for fourth on the team), and in conference play (18 games) is second among her teammates with a .351 average and leads the Broncos with 20 hits.

After batting .200 over 35 games (nine starts) as a freshman in 2014, Serrano improved to .286 as a sophomore while starting 30 of the 42 games in which she appeared. She followed that up by batting .325 last year with the first two home runs of her career before starting 41 of 42 games for the Broncos this season.

McGill, despite being limited by injuries during much of her career, has continued to provide leadership and toughness for the Broncos. She went 5-4 as a freshman in 2014 before winning three games in both 2015 and 2016, tossing a pair of complete games each season.
