DENVER - For the first time in her career, Tazz Weatherly earned a WAC Hitter of the Week honor. The weekly honor marks the second time a member of the Boise State softball team has earned the award this year. Weatherly joins Kathy Cox and Christina Capobianco as the only Broncos ever to earn the award.
Weatherly, a sophomore center fielder from Stockton, Calif., hit .500 on the week, helping the Broncos to a 2-1 record against San Jose State. Weatherly came into the weekend with one career home run and hit two round-trippers on Saturday in a doubleheader split against the Spartans. Weatherly recorded four hits, two home runs, three runs and six RBI and was hit by a pitch twice over the three games. She registered a 1.250 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage. Weatherly recorded her ninth multi-hit game of the year and her two multi-RBI performances on Saturday were her fourth and fifth of the season.
The Broncos series win over the visiting Spartans marked their third consecutive WAC series win and fourth of the season. With one week left to play, the Broncos sit in third place in the WAC standings. They need two wins or two Louisiana Tech losses to clinch the No. 3 seed in the six team tournament.
The Broncos close the regular season with three games in Reno, Nev. as they take on Nevada in a WAC series. The two WAC foes will play a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. (MT) on Friday and a single game on Saturday at 2 p.m. (MT).
