April 19, 2018

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Boise State freshman slugger Alison Seng was named a finalist for the Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year, the organization announced, Wednesday. Seng is the only member from a Mountain West institution on the 25-member watch list.

The list will be trimmed down to the top 10 on May 10, and the final three finalists will be announced on May 23. The award will be presented to the winner prior to the start of the 2018 NCAA Women’s College World Series.

“Ali is a tremendous competitor, one of the hardest workers, the epitome of a blue-collar student-athlete, and most importantly an amazing person and teammate,” Boise State head coach Cindy Ball said. “She deserves this recognition and continues to represent our program with greatness.”

A first baseman and designated player for the Broncos, Seng has put together a phenomenal freshman season for the Blue and Orange. She has batted a Mountain West-leading .431 through all 41 games on Boise State’s schedule up to this point, making 38 starts.

Seng has scored 28 times this season with nine doubles and five home runs, and was named Mountain West Player of the Week on March 20.
