Softball Adds One More To 2010 Squad
BOISE, Idaho Head coach Erin Thorpe announced one late signee to the 2010 Boise State softball team. Vanessa Alvarez, a 5-9 infielder of Corona Del Sol High School in Chandler, Ariz., will join the team in the fall and is the fifth high school player to sign with the Broncos for the 2010 season.

Alvarez has been a four year starter on the Corona Del Sol softball team that has made the state tournament in her first three years, taking second place twice, with another appearance likely in her senior season. She has also been named to the All-Region and All-City teams in her first three seasons for Corona Del Sol.

“Vanessa will bring a solid glove and a strong bat to our program,” said Thorpe. “We are every excited about her potential and expect great things from her.”

Alvarez enjoyed her best season as a sophomore with a .476 average and 50 hits, both career-highs thus far. She also had 10 doubles, six triples and three home runs while knocking in 41 RBI. In her junior season, Alvarez collected 45 hits for a .375 average. She brought in 41 RBI while smashing a career-high 12 doubles, three triple and two homers. Alvarez has already tied her career-high with three round-trippers in her season through her first 20 games. She is hitting .388 with 22 runs scored, just seven shy of her career-high.

In the summer, Alvarez plays for the Desert Thunder 18u team. As a freshman, Alvarez helped her 16u take first at the Triple Crown Series Nationals and second at the American Softball Association Nationals.
