DENVER-Boise State junior Aubray Zell was named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, Monday, for the week of April 4-10. Zell went 2-0 during the week with a 0.00 ERA in two complete-games, helping the Broncos sweep Louisiana Tech.
It is Zell's second WAC Pitcher of the Week award this season, and the third for Boise State. It is the fourth weekly honor of any kind this season for the Broncos and the eighth in program history. Zell becomes the first Boise State softball student-athlete to earn multiple weekly honors in her career.
Zell took the ball in the first game of the series Friday, and held the Lady Techsters to two unearned runs in seven innings. She allowed six hits and one walk while striking out five in the 6-2 win. Zell returned for the series finale and was perfect through the first three and two-thirds innings. She surrendered four hits without walking a batter and striking out four in the five-inning, 8-0 victory. The shutout was Zell's fourth of the season, a school record.
The Broncos travel to Utah State, April 15-16, for the fourth WAC series of the season. The Broncos are tied for first in the conference at 8-1 in WAC play. After taking on the Aggies, Boise State will remain in the Beehive State for a Monday doubleheader at Weber State.
