BOISE, Idaho-Boise State softball will host a three-game series against Texas A&M May 10-12, head coach Erin Thorpe announced Tuesday. Each game of the series will start at 4 p.m. (MT), at Mountain Cove Softball Field.
The Aggies are currently ranked No. 17 in the NFCA/USA Today Coaches' Poll. Only three teams have visited Mountain Cove with a national ranking in tow, the highest being No. 23 Nevada in 2009. The Broncos are 3-6 all-time against top-25 opponents at home. Texas A&M has made it to the last 10 NCAA Tournaments, including a trip to the 2011 NCAA Super Regionals. The three-game set gives the Broncos 21 contests against returning NCAA Tournament teams this season.
The two schools have never met on the softball diamond and Boise State is 0-7 all-time against teams from the Big 12 Conference.
The games fill the Broncos' open week at the end of the regular season after playing all four Mountain West series in consecutive weekends. Boise State concludes its MW slate May 6, at San Diego State. There is no conference tournament in the Mountain West and the regular-season champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The 64-team field will be announced May 13, at 8 p.m. (MT) on NCAA.com.
Boise State returns home April 13-15, to host UNLV in the conference opener for both teams. First pitch for Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m., with the Saturday and Sunday tilts slated for 1 p.m., at Mountain Cove Softball Field. The Broncos carry a 23-game home winning streak- the second-longest active streak in the country- into the series.
