DENVER-- Boise State freshman Devon Bridges was named was named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week, Monday, for the week of March 21-27. Bridges powered the Broncos to a sweep in their conference-opening series against Nevada with four home runs and 10 RBI.
Bridges finished the weekend batting .714 (5-for-7) with an .800 on-base percentage and a staggering. 2.429 slugging percentage. She homered in each game, including twice in the finale, her biggest game. Bridges hit a two-run blast in the first inning and added a grand slam in the fourth to cap a six-run inning and give the Broncos a one-run lead.She finished the game 3-for-4 with a school-record six RBI. The grand slam was the second of her career, making her the only player in school history with multiple grand slams in a career.
The Danville, Calif., native now leads the Broncos with eight home runs on the season, all of them coming at home. Bridges has homered in each of the last five games at Mountain Cove Softball Field. She also leads the team with 30 RBI, ranking No. 5 on the all-time single-season list.
It is the first weekly honor of Bridges' career and the first WAC Hitter of the Week award for a Bronco this season.
Boise State takes the field seven times this week, starting Tuesday, against Utah Valley in Provo, Utah.
