BOISE, Idaho - Boise State (8-25, 0-3 MW) hosts just its second weekend of action, and first of the Mountain West campaign, at Dona Larsen Park this week. The Broncos take on San Diego State (20-12, 3-0 MW) in a three-game series beginning Friday (March 27) at 4 p.m. MT.
Against San Diego State
About The Opposition
Aztec senior Kayla Jordan was named Mountain West Player of the Week Monday after batting .556 (10-for-18) with three home runs, six RBI and six runs scored in the sweep of UNLV. On the year, Jordan leads San Diego State with a .413 batting average, 43 hits and 10 doubles while adding four homers and 16 RBI.
In the circle, Erica Romero is 18-9 with a 2.92 ERA, 93 strikeouts and 13 complete games over 30 appearances.
Last Week's Outings
The Broncos scored a run their first time up Friday, but went scoreless the rest of the way, and only managed nine hits, all singles, for the weekend. Boise State was put into early holes all weekend as well, as San Jose State posted a three-run first inning in each contest.
The Broncos own a 27-14 record at Dona Larsen Park, and are 14-7 there in Mountain West play since moving into the new digs in 2013.
Boise State In Home MW Openers Boise State has won all three of its previous home conference-opening series since joining the Mountain West in 2012, and boasts a record of 7-2 over those nine games.
In 2012, the Broncos swept UNLV before capturing two of three from San Diego State in 2013 and Fresno State last year.
Not The Best Start, But...
Last year, the Broncos opened Mountain West play 2-5, which included being swept at Colorado State. From there, Boise State won 13 of its next 14 games to get into a first-place tie atop the conference table heading into the final series of the season.
If the Broncos can put last weekend's stumble out of their minds, they can recall that a bad start can be overcome.
Looking For A Measure Of Revenge
Last year, the Broncos came to San Diego for the final series of the season, holding a one-game lead over the Aztecs in the conference standings and tied with Fresno State (but holding the tiebreaker over the Bulldogs) atop the table.
However, the Broncos were swept in three by the Aztecs and hopes of a first NCAA Tournament appearance were dashed.
Bridges Closes In On Hits Record
So far this year Bridges leads the team with a .363 batting average and 33 hits, including five doubles and three home runs.
Freshmen Swinging The Bats
Both players had two hits last weekend in San Jose, sharing the team lead with redshirt senior Devon Bridges.
On the year Sullivan is batting .307 and leads the Broncos with 10 doubles, five home runs, 26 RBI and 15 runs scored while ranking second with 27 hits. She is in the Mountain West top 10 in doubles (tied for second), home runs (tied for eighth) and RBI (tied for eighth) as well as with 18 walks (tied for eighth) and a .591 slugging percentage (ninth).
Pearson, meanwhile, has worked her way into the starting lineup over the past few weekends, and is batting .323 with a home run, three RBI and six runs scored.
