BOISE, Idaho - Aubray Zell tossed the first shutout of her career to lead the Boise State softball team to a 1-1 record on the second day of the SpringHill Suites Invitational. The Broncos (5-16) dropped the morning game 9-1 to Portland State (9-14) but bounced back with an 11-0 win over Weber State (0-22). The win over the Wildcats ended an 11-game home losing streak, dating back to last season.

Game 1 vs. Portland State

The Vikings didn't waste any time in jumping out to a big lead as they exploded for four runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Vikings put up one more in the second, three more in the fifth and a final run in the sixth en route to a shortened victory.

Jessi Hanna was on fire despite the rest of the Broncos woes. She went 2-for-2 on the day with a single, a double and a run scored. Hanna led off the third inning with a double and advanced to second on a fly out off the bat of Ashleigh Viers-Gordillo. Tazz Weatherly promptly knocked in Hanna with a single to left for the Broncos' only run.

Nicole Latham held the Broncos to the one run on four hits while recording two strikeouts. Holly Bourke collected the only other hit that the Broncos had in the game.

Game 2 vs. Weber State

Zell was lights-out for the Broncos in their 11-0 win over the Wildcats. She allowed only four hits in five innings of work en route to the run-rule victory. The shutout is the first of Zell's career and the third in Boise State history. She also struck out three batters to help collect her first win of the year.

Kathy Cox gave the Broncos a quick 2-0 lead as she launched her team-leading seventh homer in the first inning. Cox also stroked a double in the fourth inning, going 2-for-3 on the day with two RBI and two runs scored.

Cox was one of four Broncos to record multiple hits in the game as well as one of four to collect multiple RBI. Weatherly went 3-for-4 in the game with an RBI and two runs scored. Hanna, Bourke and Kellie Caplan also recorded two hits in the Broncos first home win of the season.

The Broncos scored in every inning except the second, capped by a five-run fifth that sealed the run-rule victory.

In the other two games on Saturday, Portland State defeated Minnesota 1-0 and Minnesota squeaked past Weber State with a 5-4 victory in extra innings.

The SpringHill Suites Invitational concludes tomorrow with four games starting at 9:30 a.m. The Broncos will take on the Wildcats again at 2 p.m. and will look for revenge on the Vikings at 4:15 p.m.
