Cervantes Named Player Of The Week

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State sophomore Rebekah Cervantes was named Mountain West Player of the Week Tuesday after helping the Bronco softball team to a perfect 5-0 weekend at the CSUN/LMU Tournament this past weekend.

Cervantes batted .500 (8-for-16) and led the Broncos in hits, runs (nine), and RBIs (10) in addition to hitting her team lead-tying fifth home run of the season. For the weekend, Boise State picked up wins over North Dakota (6-3), co-host LMU (5-0), Bryant (8-0 in five innings), Quinnipiac (25-12, six innings) and Hartford (10-1, six innings).

The 2016 Mountain West Freshman of the Year posted a pair of three-hit games over Sunday's wins over Quinnipiac and Hartford, going 3-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs against the former. Cervantes also tripled twice over the weekend.

On the year, Cervantes leads the Broncos in batting (.492), doubles (seven), triples (two), RBIs (29) and slugging (.918) while sharing the lead with five home runs and standing second with 30 hits.

Boise State (17-5), which received a vote in Tuesday's USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll, opens Mountain West play this weekend at Dona Larsen Park, hosting Colorado State for a three-game series Friday-Sunday. Friday's series opener is set for a 4 p.m. start.
