Washington Claims Pitcher Of The Week

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State senior pitcher Christina Washington was named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning.

It is the first Mountain West weekly honor for Washington, and the second for Boise State this season. Corey Hendrickson was named player of the week on Feb. 21.

Washington, a senior transfer from Cal State Fullerton, went 3-0 this past weekend at the Willie Jewell's Invitational in Charleston, S.C., highlighting Boise State's perfect 6-0 weekend. She capped her weekend Saturday by throwing the first perfect game in Boise State history, going five perfect innings in an 8-0, five-inning win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

For the weekend, Washington tossed two shutouts, struck out 12 batters and sported an ERA of 1.06. Her performance upped her season record to 5-1 with a pair of shutouts, a 2.00 ERA and 24 strikeouts.

Boise State (11-2), currently on a 10-game winning streak, hosts the Springhill Suites Classic this weekend (March 3-5) at Dona Larsen Park. The Broncos open play Friday at 3:30 p.m. against Cal State Northridge.
