Boise State Falls to Top-Ranked Florida 3-0

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif.-Boise State gave No. 1/3 Florida all it could handle Saturday, before falling short in a 3-0 loss at the Cathedral City Classic. Aubray Zell and Lela Work held the Gators to five hits, but the offense could not capitalize on three Florida errors, leaving six on base.

Florida (13-1) took advantage of every opportunity the Broncos gave them. The Gators had three hits in the top of the first inning, including two bunt singles, to build a 2-0 lead. After that the only damage was a leadoff home run in the fifth inning. The Broncos did not issue a walk, but Florida stranded just one runner on base in the game.

Boise State (9-6) tied Florida with five hits, but could not cross the plate. The Broncos threatened multiple times, putting four runners in scoring position and advancing a runner to third base twice.

Mackenzie Whyte was 2-for-3 at the plate, including a double. Tara Glover also doubled and has hit safely in 14 of the Broncos' 15 games.

Zell started and went five innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out five. Lela Work finished the game, allowing just one hit in her two innings.

The Broncos finished the tournament 2-3, and will head to Tempe, Ariz., next week for the Wilson/DeMarini Classic. Boise State will play five more games, Friday through Sunday.
