SAN DIEGO, Calif. The Boise State softball team scored all five runs in a huge third inning that led to its third straight victory in a 5-3 win over previously ranked Long Beach State. The Broncos (3-2) took advantage of two 49er errors in the inning en route to the upset.

The 49ers (4-7) took a narrow 1-0 lead into the third inning after manufacturing a run in the first inning. Nine batters and two errors later, the Broncos had set up the upset. Junior Kelsey Perkins led off the inning by reaching on an error and was later retired at third for the second out of the inning. With two outs and one runner on, freshman Lexi Straton walked and junior Kathy Cox reached on an error to load the bases. Junior Laurel Wyatt gave the Broncos the lead with a two-run single. Freshman Kelly Sweeney added to the lead with a triple to center, scoring Wyatt and Cox.  Not satisfied with the 4-1 lead, freshman Kellie Caplan stroked another single, scoring Sweeney to give Boise State a 5-1 lead.

The five runs was all freshman pitcher Aubray Zell needed as the southern California native held the 49ers to just six hits and three runs through seven innings of work. Zell (3-1) picked up her third win of the season and second complete game. She also struck out five while only walking one en route to the win.

The Broncos will take the field again tonight against the host San Diego Toreros at 6:30 p.m. (PT).
