WEEKLY NOTES  TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

BOISE, Idaho -- The Boise State softball team will enter the second week of the season with a return trip to Las Vegas, Nev., for the Marucci Desert Classic, Feb. 16-18. The Broncos (3-3) will play five games over three days against opponents from Conference-USA, the Big 12, the MAC and the Big West.

WHERE: Games will be played at Eller Media Stadium, on the campus of UNLV, and at Stephanie Lynn Craig Park in nearby Henderson, Nev.

IT STAYS IN VEGAS: The Broncos will return to the Las Vegas-hosted tournament, in its first year being known as the Marucci Desert Classic, for the fifth-consecutive season. The Broncos are 8-10 all-time at the tournament, but went 4-0 at the 2017 edition of the tournament.

SERIES HISTORY: The Broncos will face UTEP (Feb. 16), Iowa State (Feb. 16), Buffalo (Feb. 17), Long Beach State (Feb. 17) and Hawai'i (Feb. 18) in Las Vegas. The Broncos will renew rivalry against Hawai'i, as this with be the 12th-meeting between the two former WAC schools. Boise State trails the all-time series, 3-8, but have taken three of the last four. The Broncos hold a 2-0 advantage over UTEP, while trailing the all-time series to Long Beach State, 1-7, and Iowa State, 0-1. This will be the first meeting for Boise State against Buffalo.

THREE UP THREE DOWN: Boise State went 3-3 to open the season at the Kajikawa Classic (Feb. 8-11), their best start to a season since opening the 2015 season, 3-3 at the North Texas Tournament. Boise State nabbed wins over South Dakota (11-3) and Saint Mary's (13-5), while also surviving a 7-6 game against Big Ten opponent Indiana.

OPERATION ROARING THUNDER: The batting power of Boise State's lineup was on full display at the Kajikawa Classic. The Broncos hit six home runs on the weekend, including four in a 13-5 win over Saint Mary's. All five of Boise State's home runs came from different players, including first career home runs for Halle Harger, Isabelle Butler, Kora Wade and Jessica McKay. Junior Rebekah Cervantes also hit the 22nd home run of her career.
