Cervantes Named Preseason All-American

BOISE, Idaho – Coming off of a record-setting season in 2017, junior shortstop Rebekah Cervantes will enter the 2018 season as a preseason All-American, according to Fast Pitch News.

Cervantes, a native of Visalia, Calif., was named to the 15-member First-Team by the outlet, Tuesday. She is one of two members from the Mountain West Conference, and one of four players from a mid-major conference to garner First-Team preseason honors from Fast Pitch News.

As a sophomore in 2017, Cervantes garnered First-Team All-Mountain West honors for the second-straight year, while batting .432 with 70 hits, 46 runs scored, nine home runs and 50 RBIs. Her 15 doubles on the season set a new Boise State single-season record. Cervantes’ batting average ranked her 17th nationally, while her slugging percentage of .728 was good for 40th in the nation.

She was just as electric on defense, recording 111 assists and recording a fielding percentage of .909.

Tara Glover is the lone player in Boise State history to end the season as an All-American, garnering Third-Team honors in 2012.

The Broncos will open the season at the Kajikawa Classic, Feb. 8-11. Their first game will be against South Dakota on Feb. 11 at 11:30 a.m. (MT).
