SAN DIEGO -- Izzy Serrano hit her second home run in as many days, but it was not enough for the Broncos as they ended the 2016 campaign Saturday with a 6-3 loss at San Diego State.

Boise State finishes 2016 with an overall record of 14-38 and a 6-18 mark in Mountain West play.

The Broncos trailed 6-1 entering the sixth when Serrano followed Tatiana Sorokina's leadoff single with a laser over the fence in right, cutting the Aztec lead to 6-3. Teauna Hughes, who led the Broncos with two hits in the contest, then singled with one out and Kaitlyn Shreves was hit by a pitch, bringing the tying run to the plate, but Ariel Frantz hiit a soft liner to short and Kayla Clausen ... to end the rally.

Aztec starter Erica Romero gave up just three runs on five hits and struck out four over six innings to earn off her 15th win of the season. Alex Formby worked a perfect seventh for her fifth save.

San Diego State (30-22, 12-12 MW) took a quick 2-0 lead in the first as Samantha Camello scored from second on Bronco pitcher Nicole Wilson's throwing error on a sacrifice bunt from Leia Ruiz. Ruiz would take third on a Molly Sturdivant fly ball two batters later, then come in to score on Jaylene Ignacio's single up the middle.

Hughes led off the Bronco second with a solo shot to left-center, halving the Aztec lead, but San Diego State answered with four runs in their half of the frame to go up 6-1. Camello, who had three hits for the Aztecs Saturday, started the scoring with a two-run homer to left after Zaria Meshack's leadoff walk, and Ruiz' triple chased Wilson from the contest. Ruiz came home two batters later on Sturdivant's sacrifice fly to center, and two batters later, Ignacio hit a solo homer to right-center.

Wilson was charged with five runs (four earned) over an inning-plus, taking the loss to finish the season 7-11. Burke was strong in relief for the Broncos, surrendering only the home run to Ignacio and striking out a pair over five innings.
