Final Stats

BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State softball team took care of business on Saturday, downing Colorado State (25-18, 9-11 MW) 7-1 in the second game of the series.

The Broncos (36-14, 14-6 MW) are now in first-place in the Mountain West conference following San José State’s loss to Utah State earlier in the day, and Fresno State’s loss to UNLV on Friday night. The Broncos are tied with the Bulldogs at the moment, but currently own the tiebreaker with four games remaining.

The 14 wins in Mountain West play ties the 2014 squad for the most Mountain West wins in a single season, and is one shy of tying the 2011 team for most conference wins in a single season (15, WAC).

Boise State wasted no time in jumping to an early, with Madison Anthony hitting a leadoff home run off the second pitch of the day for a 1-0 lead. Morgan Lamb followed with a three-run home run to left field, scoring Rebekah Cervantes and Kora Wade to give the Broncos a 4-0 lead over Colorado State. Colorado State would then turn to Alison Petty in the circle.

Alison Seng walked with the bases loaded in the top of the second to extend Boise State’s lead to 5-0. With two outs already in the inning, Jessica McKay struck out looking to end the inning.

Anthony added another home run in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 7-1. The senior finished the game 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs.

Despite recording 11 hits on the day, Boise State hit .154 (2-for-13) with runners in scoring position to only score seven runs, relying instead on their defense to down Colorado State. Gianna Mancha allowed only three hits and no earned runs in the game, and forced the Rams to hit .143 (1-for-7) with runners on, and .000 (0-for-3) with runners in scoring position.

Mancha showed off her batting prowess with a double along the left field line in the top of the third, Boise State’s only extra-base hit that stayed within the confines of Ram Field.
