Final Stats

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State doubted the Boise State softball entering Friday’s series opener, and the Broncos found the Rams’ lack of faith disturbing. Boise State (35-14, 13-6 MW) walked away with the 4-1 win, despite only having four hits in the game.

Leading off in the top of the second inning, freshman Alison Seng hit a solo shot that cleared the centerfield fence to give Boise State the 1-0 lead. The Broncos would load the bases in the inning, but a groundout from Kora Wade for out three would leave all three runners on base in the inning.

Colorado State (25-17, 9-10 MW) was able to tie the game in the top of the third inning, taking advantage of infield miscommunication by the Broncos. Sarah Muzik reached third base from first on a sacrifice bunt by Lauren Buchanan. Before the Bronco defense was able to reset for the next at-bat, Muzik had an opening to score from third, tying the game at 1-1.

Wade was able to show off her wheels running the bases in the top of the fifth, as Boise State was able to regain the lead. The throw from third to first for the putout when past the first baseman and into the right field fence, giving Wade more than enough time to reach third base.

On the next at-bat, Cervantes reached first on a fielder’s choice, but the force out at home for Colorado State was unsuccessful, as Wade was able to score.

In the bottom of the inning, Colorado State threatened to retake the lead. With two outs, Buchanan hit a shot to left center on a hit that was inches away from being a solo home run. The ball bounced off the padding of the fence and back into play for a double. The next batter walked to put the leading run on first, but Boise State was able to record the final out on a pop up to shortstop.

The Broncos added two more runs in the top of the seventh innings, both on fielder's choices.

Boise State pitcher Kelsey Broadus allowed only four hits in the game, striking out seven.

The series will continue tomorrow with a 1 p.m. MT start.
