FRESNO, Calif. - Michelle Solomon drove in three of Fresno State's runs, culminating with a go-ahead, two-run homer in the fifth that put the Bulldogs in front to stay in their 4-3 win over Boise State Saturday at Margie Wright Diamond.

Solomon's one-out drive stayed just inside the left-field foul pole, spoiling the hometown return of Fresno native and Bronco freshman hurler Rachel Rodriguez. The rookie pitcher gave up four runs, three of them earned, on seven hits over five innings but fell to 4-17 on the year.

The loss also dropped Boise State to 10-34 overall and 2-12 in Mountain West play, while Fresno State stayed at the top of the table, improving to 13-4 in conference play and 33-14 overall.

Just as with Friday night, the Broncos brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the top of the seventh Saturday. A miscommunication between Fresno State outfielders Brenna Moss and Kiera Willis allowed Jordan Kreiger's fly ball to drop between them in left-center for a one-out double. But Bulldog pitcher Jill Compton, working in relief, got Sara Ketelsleger to line to first then Devon Bridges to bounce to short for the final two outs.

Compton picked up her second win of the series to improve to 21-10, this one coming after she allowed just the double to Kreiger over the final 2.1 innings. The Bulldog ace came on for starter Hannah Harris in the fifth with two out, the bases loaded, and the Broncos up 3-2, and struck out Izzy Serrano to end the rally.

Bridges had singled with two out and two on earlier in the fifth to drive in Shaelee Pearson for the 3-2 lead. Teauna Hughes was hit by Harris' second pitch of the at-bat, loading the bases and prompting the change to Compton.

Each team took advantage of mistakes by the other to score in both halves of the first. The Broncos loaded the bases with one out in their half of the first and took an early lead as Kreiger scampered home on a passed ball.

But the Broncos' got greedy, and it cost them. When Bulldog catcher Paige Gumz' throw home went past Harris as Kreiger scored, Sara Ketelsleger broke for home from third but was thrown out with room to spare as third baseman Alyssa Villalpando backed up the play smartly. A batter later, the inning would end with the Broncos up 1-0.

Fresno State wasted little time pulling even as Solomon, who went 3-for-3 with her three RBI on the night, drove in Malia Rivers with a one-out triple. Rodriguez would get Willis to fly to center, but the Bulldogs would get their second run as Makenzie Sullivan's throw in the dirt on Gumz' grounder could not be secured by Hughes at first, allowing Solomon to score.

Rodriguez would put together one of her best outings of the season, rolling through the Bulldog lineup until running into Solomon again in the fifth. With Rivers on with another hit, Rodriguez got a 2-2 count on Solomon but left one over the plate and the Bulldog right fielder made her pay with the game-deciding home run.

Nicole Wilson would come on in the sixth and throw a scoreless frame for the Broncos.

At the plate, Bridges, Kreiger and Pearson had two hits apiece to lead the Broncos, while Makenzie Sullivan drove in a run in the second with an RBI groundout.
