FRESNO, Calif. - Boise State hung tough and had chances at first-place Fresno State Friday, but the Bulldogs did just enough to hold off the Broncos for a 4-2 win.

It was a tough loss especially for Bronco starter Nicole Wilson, who held the Bulldogs to just five hits and four runs, with just three earned.

A Bronco error led to Fresno State's second run of a two-run first inning to score on a two-run single from Kierra Willis, then a solo shot from Alyssa Villalpando and an RBI double from Bria Kennedy in the sixth provided the winning margin.

The loss dropped Wilson to 2-8 on the season and the Broncos to 10-33 overall and 2-11 in Mountain West play.

Bulldog starter Jill Compton picked up win No. 20, improving to 20-10 as Fresno State remained tied for the conference lead at 12-4 in Mountain West play and 31-14 overall. Compton went the distance, striking out four while allowing just one run on three hits.

The Broncos fought to the end, loading the bases with one out and getting a run in the seventh on Makenna Weir's bases-loaded ground out , but with the tying run on second Jordan Kreiger grounded out to short to end it.

Two batters after Makenzie Sullivan's throwing error put two on for the Bulldogs in the first, Willis singled up the middle to score Moss and Rivers, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

Boise State got one back in the fourth on Teauna Hughes' RBI single which scored Hailey Torrez, but the batter before, the Broncos missed a chance as Kreiger was thrown out trying to score from second on Devon Bridges' base hit. Moss fielded Bridges' hit cleanly and threw Kreiger out by a few steps with a nice strike to the plate.

That would be all the Broncos would get, as Fresno State would add Villalpando's solo homer to left-center leading off its half of the fourth to reclaim the momentum.
