Final Stats

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State freshman Gianna Mancha took a no-hitter into the top of the eighth inning, but the Broncos (27-12, 6-4 MW) fell to UNLV 1-0 in the opening game of the series, Friday at Dona Larsen Park. Mancha threw eight strikeouts and allowed only three runners on base in a pitcher’s duel between the Runnin’ Rebel’s Janin Petmecky in the loss.

The loss drops Boise State to 1-1 in extra-inning games this season, both during Mountain West games.

Alyssa Navarro hit a home run into left center with one out in the top of the eighth to score the first run of the game, and give UNLV (23-15, 5-8 MW) a 1-0 lead. Boise State was unable to respond in the bottom of the inning for the loss.

The Broncos had a chance to end the game in the bottom of the seventh, with the game still scoreless. With runners on second and third with only one out, Jessica McKay got caught in a rundown, but Alison Seng and Justene Molina were able to advance to third and second, respectively. Halle Harger stuck out on the final at-bat to end the inning and strand two on base.

Seng and Madison Anthony led Boise State with two hits each, as the Broncos tallied six hits in the game. Other than Navarro’s home run, Morgan Lamb hit the only extra-base hit of the day – a double.

The series will continue tomorrow at 1 p.m. The first 50 fans in attendance will receive a free pink, Bronco t-shirt, while any fan wearing pink will also receive discounted admission as part of the team’s Breast Cancer Awareness Weekend. Any fan 12-and-under wearing their baseball, softball or t-ball jersey will also receive free admission.
