Final Stats

OREM, Utah – The Boise State softball team swept Utah Valley (9-20, 1-2 WAC) in a nonconference doubleheader at Wolverine Softball Stadium. The Broncos (27-11, 6-3 MW) run-ruled the Wolverines in the first game of the day, 15-6, before coming back to win the second game, 10-4.

Boise State now holds a 4-1 advantage on Utah Valley this season.

GAME ONE | Box Score

The Broncos scored multiple runs in all five innings of the first game, as they run-ruled Utah Valley, 15-6.
Boise State struck in the first inning, taking a 2-0 lead over the Wolverines with a two-run home run from Morgan Lamb in the top of the inning. The home run is Lamb’s second of the season, and second in the past four days.

The Broncos are 15-4 this season when scoring in the first inning.

Utah Valley responded in the bottom half of the inning, hitting a three-run homer into right field to take a 3-2 lead.

Boise State would score four runs in the top of the third to extend their lead. Rebekah Cervantes would add a home run, and Alison Seng would follow with an RBI double to give Boise State a 6-3 lead over Utah Valley. Makenzie Sullivan would hit a sacrifice fly into left field to bat in Jessica McKay. Seng would later score when Shaelee Pearson on a run-down that ended the inning to give Boise State an 8-3 lead.

Cervantes would end the game 3-for-3 at the plate, batting in four runs.  

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Utah Valley would power back to cut Boise State’s lead down to 11-6. The Broncos would rebound in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs to eclipse the eight-run lead needed for a run-rule victory.

Veronica Lynch earned her first win of the season, striking out one in 2.2 innings of work.

GAME TWO | Box Score

The Broncos would hold on for the win in the second game of the doubleheader, downing Utah Valley, 10-4.

Utah Valley struck first in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double from Peyton Angulo. The Bronco defense would hold to strand two runners on base, and keep the Wolverine’s lead to 1-0 through the first frame.

Boise State would tie the game in the top of the second when Madison Anthony got caught in a rundown, opening a window for Pearson to score from third.

The Broncos would finally find their stride at the plate in the top of the third, scoring three runs to take a 5-1 lead over the Wolverines. Justene Molina scored from second on a double from Cervantes, while Cervantes would reach home on a single from Lamb on the next at-bat. Isabelle Butler and Seng would also score on a single from Sullivan, and a ground out from Pearson, respectively.

The bottom of the inning would pull the Wolverines within two runs, however, as Utah Valley scored three runs in the inning, all with two outs on the board.

Seng would follow up with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to extend Boise State’s lead to 7-3. Boise State would add two more runs in the top of the seventh.
