POCATELLO, Idaho – The Boise State softball (25-11, 6-3 MW) swept Idaho State in a doubleheader at Miller Ranch Stadium, Tuesday. The Broncos came back to win the first game, 6-3, and run-ruled the Bengals in five innings in the second game, 16-0.

The Broncos trailed 3-2 entering the top of the sixth inning. The Bengals were able to get the first two outs of the inning, and the bases loaded, Morgan Lamb hit a fly ball to left field, but Idaho State committed an error on the play. This led to Madison Anthony and Ashlyn Adams to score from third and second.

On the next at-bat, Jessica McKay doubled into the outfield to score two more runs, give Boise State the 6-3 lead.

Kelsey Broadus came on to pitch the final two innings, walking no batters and striking out three for the save.

Gianna Mancha got her 11th win of the season, and is two away from tying Aubray Zell’s freshman record of 13.

The Broncos dominated from start to finish to blank the Bengals, 16-0. Boise State leadoff with two runs in the top of the first on a two-run home run from Micaela Leal. Leal also earned the starting nod in the circle, allowing only two hits in 4.0 shutout innings to earn the win.

Leal would become the first Boise State player to earn the win in the circle while also hitting a home run, since Rachel Rodriguez did so in a win against Seattle (Feb. 15, 2015).

The Broncos added one run in the second inning, and three runs in the third and fourth inning, before exploding for seven runs in the top of the fifth for the 16-0 victory. Boise State would score three of their 16 runs on bases loaded walks in the victory.
