BOISE, Idaho - Utah State homered twice and scored three times over the final two innings to break open a one-run game and defeat Boise State, 4-1, in Friday's series opener.

Paxton Provost did most of the damage for the Aggies (22-7, 5-2 MW), going 2-for-4 with three RBIs including the big blow, a two-run homer in the seventh that doubled Utah State's lead.

The Broncos (21-10, 3-4 MW) put runners on base in every inning except the sixth, but broke through against Utah State starter Kellie White only once, on Rebekah Cervantes' two-out, RBI single in the seventh. White finished the six-hitter with four strikeouts to improve to 12-2. For the game, Boise State left nine on, including six in scoring position.

Utah State left eight runners of its own on base in the contest, but was able to push the first run of the game across in the third, as Provost's two-out bloop to right went in and out of the glove of a diving Izzy Serrano, scoring Amee Aarhus.

Boise State had its best opportunity to level things up, and nearly took the lead, in the fifth. With two away and runners at the corners, Makenzie Sullivan lined a deep shot to center but Aggie centerfielder Jazmin Clarke made a nice catch and held on while slamming into the fence to end the inning.

Riley Plogger, who led the Aggies with three hits in the contest, then led off the top of the sixth with a solo shot to right-center, her fourth homer of the year, off of Bronco starter Christina Washington to up the Aggie lead to 2-0. Washington went six and two-thirds for the Broncos, giving up four runs on 13 hits to fall to 11-5.

After Cervantes' two-out, RBI single made it 4-1 in the seventh, Sullivan came to the plate as the tying run, but lifted the first pitch into center field for the final out.

Cervantes drove in Boise State's only run while Tatiana Sorokina and Izzy Serrano each had a pair of hits.
