Boise, Idaho-
A pitchers showdown took center stage between Boise State (18-9, 3-1 MW) and San Jose State (20-9, 4-0 MW), the only schools in the Mountain West to open conference play 3-0, Friday at Dona Larsen Park. The Broncos would narrowly lose to the defending Mountain West champions, 2-0.

Despite a complete game, six strikeout effort from Kelsey Broadus, the Broncos were unable to overcome a strong performance by Spartan pitcher Madison Aurin. Aurin held the Broncos to five hits to hold the Broncos scoreless for only the second time this season. Broadus held San Jose State to only five hits and one walk.

San Jose State struck first in the top of the third inning on a hit batter, an error, and a single to left center by Cassidy Clark. Aurin homered to dead center to increase San Jose State lead to 2-0 in the top of the fourth, but those would be the only two runs the Spartans would get, despite entering the game averaging 5.89 runs a game.

Junior shortstop Rebekah Cervantes was 2-for-3 at the plate, with her 10th double of the season in the third inning.

Due to weather concerns, the Broncos and Spartans will close out the series with a doubleheader tomorrow, with the first game set to begin at 1 p.m. (MT).
