LOGAN, Utah –
The Boise State softball team opened Mountain West play with a resounding 11-1 victory over Utah State, Friday at Johnson Field. The Broncos batted in 10 runs on 11 hits, while also receiving stellar pitching from sophomore Kelsey Broadus to take game one of the conference-opening series.

Broadus allowed only two hits and walked only two batters in 5.0 innings of action as Boise State run-ruled the Aggies. Broadus struck out 10 batters – her second-consecutive game with double digit strikeouts – while giving up only one earned run.

The 11 runs are the most Boise State has scored in a Mountain West game since a 16-15 victory over Colorado State (April 2, 2016) and the most they’ve scored in a conference opener since they beat Nevada 13-0 during the team’s final season in the WAC (March 25, 2011).

The Broncos scored early and scored often, getting a home run from Madison Anthony in the top of the third, and RBIs from six different players in the route. Anthony and freshman Ashlyn Adams both led the team with three RBIs.

Rebekah Cervantes kicked things off for Boise State in the top of the first inning, driving a single into right field that brought Anthony home. In the following inning, Alison Seng scored on a single from Adams to give Boise State at 2-0 lead over Utah State, while Justene Molina drove in Shaelee Pearson in the top of the third.

Adams would break things open for Boise State in the fourth inning, driving in two runs on a double on the first pitch she saw. Her shot into left field brought home Molina and Jessica McKay. Anthony would drive a 3 RBI bomb into left center the very next pitch to give Boise State an 8-0 lead.

The Broncos would tack on another three runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Aggies would finally get one on the board when Utah State’s Brina Buttacavoli scored on a solo home run.

Due to weather concerns, it is unknown when Boise State and Utah State will be able to play the second and third game of the series. Check Broncosports.com and @broncosportssb on Twitter for more updates.
