Mackenzie Whyte led an offensive onslaught as Boise State softball won a pair of games Friday, on the first day of the SpringHill Suites Invitational II at Dona Larsen Park. The Broncos defeated Lafayette 11-4 and Southern Utah 6-4. Whyte was 5-for-7 on the day with a home run, three runs scored, three driven in and three stolen bases.

The Broncos racked up 25 hits in the two games, including seven for extra bases. Whyte was one of three Broncos to homer as Kayla Clausen hit the first round-tripper of her career in the first game and Sarah Barnes went deep against Southern Utah. Jordan Kreiger doubled twice against Lafayette, while Lindsey Nicholson and Tara Glover each tripled in the fifth inning against the Leopards.

Rebecca Patton earned a win and a save in nine-and-two-thirds innings across two appearances. Patton struck out She went the distance in the second game of the day for her 1oth complete game of the season, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six. Patton recorded the final eight outs against Lafayette for her first save since 2010, while at Cal Poly. She allowed just one hit and two walks with three strikeouts in two-and-two-thirds scoreless innings.

Freshman Mackenzie McGill picked up the win in the first game. McGill pitched four-and-one-third innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and six walks. With the win, McGill became the first Bronco to register a victory in the circle other than Patton.

Boise State trailed 4-0 against Lafayette after the top of the third inning. The Broncos scored twice in the third and four times in the fourth to take the lead. They ended up scoring 11 unearned runs.

The Broncos stole 10 more bases in the two games, giving them 55 for the season. Boise State stole 46 bags all of last season.

The SpringHill Suites Invitational II continues Saturday, with four games on the schedule. Boise State will play at 2:15 p.m. (MT) and 4:30 p.m. (MT) against Idaho State and Southern Utah, respectively.
