RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A pair of home runs from seniors propelled the Boise State softball team to a 6-1 victory over Columbia (3-8), Saturday at Amy S. Harrison Softball Field. The win means Boise State concludes the UCR Classic with a 4-1 record, and moves the Broncos to 13-8 on the season.

Madison Anthony set the tone early for Boise State, as she turned the fifth pitch she saw in the leadoff spot into a home run to left field, giving Boise State a 1-0 lead. Kora Wade would score on an RBI from Rebekah Cervantes to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead that they would never relinquish.

In the top of the sixth inning, Makenzie Sullivan hit her second home run of the season, a solo shot. The home run gives Sullivan 25 in her career, putting her seven shy of moving into a tie for third-place on the Boise State record book.

Justene Molina would score from second base in the fourth inning, while Wade and Cervantes would add runs in the fifth inning.

Wade went 4-for-4 at the plate, scoring twice and stealing two bases, increasing her season total to 16. That total puts her in a tie for seventh on the single-season record book.

Gianna Mancha recorded her seventh win of the season, doing so in only nine starts in the circle. The freshman pitched 4.0 innings, striking out five while only giving up three hits and two walks.

Boise State will return to home for the first time this season, hosting Utah Valley in a doubleheader at new-look Dona Larsen Park, Wednesday March 14. The first game will begin at noon.
