TEMPE, Ariz. - Boise State stopped its six-game skid Sunday, salvaging a win at the Diamond Devil Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. by defeating Indiana State, 7-6, in eight innings.

The trio of junior Kayla Clausen, sophomore Izzy Serrano and freshman Makenzie Sullivan capped their impressive respective weekends with a pair of hits apiece. Clausen and Sullivan each went deep and drove in a pair of runs for the Broncos, as well.

Boise State (5-10) travels to Southern California for the Long Beach Louisville Slugger Invitational next weekend. The Broncos begin action Thursday (Feb. 26) in Lakewood against Wichita State at noon MT and Seattle University at 2:30 p.m. MT. Friday's contests will be against Portland State (12:30 p.m. MT) and Weber State (3 p.m. MT), and the finale will be at Cal State Fullerton Saturday at 3:30 p.m. MT.

The game featured a wild final two innings. Clausen broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh with her first homer of the year, an opposite-field shot to right. In the bottom half, Ashley Dickerson led off with a single for the Sycamores (2-7), was sacrificed to second then moved to third on a groundout. Erika Crissman would get the two-out RBI single to drive in Dickerson off of Bronco starter Rachel Rodriguez and tie the game.

Boise State would not be shaken, however, as the Broncos came right back with three runs in the top of the eighth. The Broncos opened the inning with Kaelie Doyle pinch-running for Devon Bridges at second, and after Sycamore catcher Brooke Riemenschneider misplayed Sara Ketelsleger's sacrifice attempt, Boise State had runners at the corners.

Sullivan walked to load the bases, setting up consecutive sacrifice flies from Rodriguez and pinch-hitter Ashley Palmer to make it 6-4. Freshman Shaelee Pearson then picked up her first collegiate hit and RBI, driving in Sullivan with an infield hit to third.

Boise State would have to survive a nervy bottom of the eighth to collect the win. Rodriguez gave up consecutive RBI doubles to Mary Turitto and Riemenschneider, getting the Sycamores to within a run and ushering Nicole Wilson into the circle to try and close it out.

After issuing a walk to Abbie Malchow, Wilson settled in, getting a fielder's choice that forced Riemenschneider at third, then closing the game on a double play for her second save of the year as Sullivan snagged Dickerson's line drive at third and doubled Malchow of at second.

Rodriguez got her second win of the season to up her record to 2-4, going seven-plus innings giving up six runs (four earned) with a pair of strikeouts.

Boise State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on Sullivan's two-run shot to left, although Indiana State answered with a run in the bottom half. Crissman, who went 3-for-4, singled and stole second with two outs, and came in to score on Megan Stone's base hit.

The Broncos got the lead back to two in the second as Pearson reached on an error, stole second and came home on Clausen's double. The score would stay that way until the fourth when the Sycamores took advantage of a couple of Bronco errors in the outfield to pull even at 3-3.
