HONOLULU - Boise State twice pulled to within a run of host Hawai'i early Friday morning but could not finish the comeback, falling 5-3 in its season opener at the Paradise Classic.

Sophomore Morgan Lamb went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI for the Broncos, who continue action at the tournament with a pair of games later Friday. The Broncos (0-1) take on UAB at 5:30 p.m. MT before facing Sacramento State at approximately 8 p.m. MT. Rebekah Cervantes, Tatiana Sorokina and Makenzie Sullivan each had a hit for the Broncos.

Hawai'i put Boise State in an early hole with three runs in the second inning. Chardonnay Pantastico's one-out single plated Jennifer Iseri for the opening run, and two batters later Sarah Muzik's double to center scored Heather Cameron and Pantastco.

Boise State pulled a pair of those runs back in the top of the fourth, as Izzy Serrano led off with a walk and came around on Rebekah Cervantes' double, scoring thanks to a Hawai'i error on the relay. Cervantes then stole third and scored on Lamb's one-out base ht through the left side to get the Broncos to within a run at 3-2. The Broncos would go on to load the bases with two away, but the inning came to a close as pinch-hitter Isabelle Butler struck out.

Hawai'i got a run back in ts half of the fourth on Muzik's RBI groundout. Bronco pitcher Christina Washington did well to limit the damage in the frame after the Rainbow Wahine loaded the bases with no outs, only surrendering the RBI groundout to Muzik before getting a pair of fielder's choices to end the threat.

The teams traded runs again in the sixth, with Lamb hitting a solo shot before Pantastico matched it in the bottom half of the frame.

Washington fell to 0-1 after going the full six innings in her Bronco debut, giving up five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Kanani Aina Cabrales went the distance for Hawai'i, striking out seven and giving up just five hits. Pantastico went 3-for-3 with the solo shot and two RBI for the Rainbow Wahine while Muzik drove in three runs.
