Joel Oliver begins his second year on the Bronco staff, and first as a full-time assistant, in 2017. Oliver served as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2016 season.

In his first season as a full-time assistant, Oliver helped coach Rebekah Cervantes to first-team All-Mountain West honors, and Morgan Lamb to second-team honors. The Broncos went 33-20 on the season and reached the championship of the NISC Ogden Regional.

Oliver comes to Boise State from his alma mater, Northwest Nazarene University, where he spent the past two seasons (2014-15) serving on the softball staff. At NNU Oliver played a part in recruiting, coached the infield and catchers, and worked with hitters.

Prior to joining Northwest Nazarene, Oliver spent two seasons (2011-12) as co-head coach of the Nampa Mudcats in the Boise Collegiate Summer League. With the Mudcats, he worked mainly with the infield, catchers, and hitters. He also served as head junior varsity baseball coach at Paloma Valley High School where three of his players moved on to play college baseball.

A native of Menifee, Calif., Oliver attended Paloma Valley High School were we won a conference championship in 2005 before starting his college baseball career at Palomar Junior College (2005). He transferred to The Master's College (Calif.) for one season (2007) before finishing his playing career at Northwest Nazarene, from where he graduated in 2010.

At Northwest Nazarene Oliver was a two-time All-GNAC selection. In January 2012 he was selected to the All-Decade Team (2000-09) at third base. In the classroom, he was voted the Outstanding Senior for Kinesiology and won The J.B. Frazier Award his senior year.

In the summer of 2014 he married his wife, Tyler. The couple has one son, Carter.
