Wigness Joins Softball Staff

Former Arizona State standout named Bronco assistant coach

Bailey Wigness joined the Boise State softball coaching staff in August 2015 and enters her third season with the program in 2018.

Wigness helped lead the Broncos to a 33-20 record during the 2017 season, as well as a postseason appearance at the NISC Ogden Regional. Boise State players have earned three first-team All-Mountain West honors, and on second-team honor during her first two seasons with the program. 

Prior to Boise State, Wigness spent one season at Arizona Christian University, where she served as hitting and outfield coach in 2015 after completing a decorated playing career at Arizona State in 2014.

At Arizona Christian, Wigness helped guide the Firestorm to a program-best 31 wins, while outfielder Abby Beasley was named NAIA All-America honorable mention after batting .430 with 19 home runs (NAIA best), 20 doubles, 55 RBI and 52 runs scored. Arizona Christian's 31 wins represented a 20-win turnaround from an 11-win 2014 campaign, marking the biggest turnaround in NAIA in 2015. Under Wigness' tutelage the Firestorm ranked in the NAIA top 25 in eight statistical categories. A

s a player at Arizona State, Wigness excelled both on the diamond and in the classroom, thrice earning All-Pac-12 honorable mention in addition to being a three-time selection to the Capital One Academic All-America Division I Softball Team and the Pac-12 Softball All-Academic First Team with a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average. At the 2013 Women's College World Series, Wigness was softball's recipient of the NCAA Elite 89 Award, given annually to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the respective sport's NCAA championship event.

Over her four years in Tempe, Wigness batted .371 with 141 hits with 130 runs scored and 40 stolen bases. She was part of three Arizona State teams that went to the Women's College World Series (2011-13) including the 2011 Sun Devil squad that won the NCAA title. Wigness graduated from Arizona State in 2014 with bachelor degrees in communications and political science.
