Boise State University’s women’s soccer team has been recognized for its academic performance in the classroom for the 2008-09 season. The Broncos recorded a combined team gpa of 3.29 among the 26 members of the squad to receive the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award.
During last year’s academic year Boise State placed a school record 16 members of their squad on the Western Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, or 61.5 percent of the student-athletes.
Since Boise State joined the WAC for the 2001-02 academic year the Broncos have led the league in classroom success. They have had the most individuals named to the WAC all-academic team with 47 and the most total honors received by the team with 89.
Since Steve Lucas took over as head coach in 2000 a total of 96 athletes have played for him (total does not include this year’s newcomers). Out of that group 49 have made the conference all-academic team at least once during their careers, 51 percent of his student-athletes.
Note: Honors for this year’s team will not be released until early this winter.
