Roberts, Saxton, and Hickcox named All-WAC.

BOISE, Idaho (11/4/2009) - On the eve of the Western Athletic Conference Soccer Tournament starting tomorrow afternoon in Boise, the WAC announced its postseason honors at tonight’s pre-tournament banquet. Among those honored were Boise State’s Shannon Saxton, Lindsay Roberts and Brandy Hickcox as they were all named to the 2009 All-WAC teams. The honors are decided by the vote of the nine head coaches of the members schools.

Representing the Broncos on the All-WAC first team was sophomore defender Lindsay Roberts. The Richland, Wash., native is a member of Boise State’s league leading defense that recorded seven shutouts. In addition, the defense allowed 17 goals for a 0.81 goals against average during the regular season, both school records heading into the conference tournament. It is the first postseason All-WAC honor for the sophomore.

Joining Roberts with postseason honors are junior forward Shannon Saxton and sophomore midfielder Brandy Hickcox who were named to the All-WAC second team. Saxton is tied for the lead in scoring with six goals and two assists. She owns the school marks for points in a career with 73 and career assists with 15, in addition, she is within on goal of tying the program record of 30 in a career. This is the third straight year the Beaverton, Ore., native has received postseason All-WAC recognition.

Hickcox is a sophomore midfielder and the heart of the Bronco offensive attack. She recorded two goals this fall but spent most of her time directing the offense that recorded 26 goals overall and a record of 10-6-4 during the season. This honor marks the second consecutive year that the Boise, Idaho, native has been named to the All-WAC second team.
