Bronco Duo Named All-MW First Team
Nov. 4, 2014

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State women's soccer senior Mikhaila Bowden and junior Brooke Heidemann were named to the All-Mountain West First Team the conference announced, Tuesday. Heidemann becomes the first Bronco in program history to earn first-team all-conference honors three times. Bowden adds the award to her second-team selection last season.

Heidemann tallied five points in Mountain West play, scoring two goals and recording one assist. The Meridian, Idaho, native was the center of attention for nearly every defense the Broncos faced but continued to create for herself and teammates. Heidemann scored on a 30-yard blast against Colorado State and a 26-yard free kick against Nevada. She also assisted on a goal at UNLV.

Bowden led a Boise State defensive unit that allowed only 10 goals in Mountain West play. She was on the field for 990 minutes, missing just 14 minutes during the conference season. Boise State conceded one of its 10 goals against with Bowden on the sideline. Of the nine goals scored against Boise State while Bowden was on the field, two were penalty kicks and one was an own goal. She was named MW Defensive Player of the Week after the Broncos swept Nevada and UNLV with a pair of shutouts.

Boise State also had two first-team honorees last season, but this marks just the fifth time in program history multiple Broncos earned the distinction in the same season. In 2013 Heidemann was joined by then-senior Katy Oehring. Heidemann was also a first-team member in 2012, when she was named Mountain West Freshman of the Year.

Shannon Saxton is the only Bronco to be named to an all-conference team four times. Saxton was twice named first-team All-WAC (2007 and 2010) and selected to the second team twice (2008 and 2009). Heidemann will have a chance to join her next season.

Only two student-athletes in Mountain West history have been named first-team all-conference four times. Next year Heidemann can match the feat accomplished previously by Amanda Feigt (Utah, 2003-06) and Katie Larkin (BYU, 2005-08).

Before that, however, the duo will lead the Broncos in the Mountain West Championship. Boise State plays Tuesday, in the first round against New Mexico. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. (PT), in San Diego.
