Flores Earns MW Weekly Defensive Honor
Nov. 3, 2014

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State freshman goalkeeper Janelle Flores was named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week, for matches played Oct. 31. Flores recorded a shutout Friday, against Utah State in a must-win game for the Broncos. It is the second weekly honor of the season for Flores, making her the first Bronco in program history to earn multiple conference defensive player of the week honors in the same season. It is the third defensive player of the week award earned by Boise State this season, the second time in school history that has been accomplished (2005).

Flores faced 13 shots and made four saves to keep a clean sheet against the Aggies. She withstood a furious Utah State rally midway through the first half as the Aggies put three shots on goal and took three corner kicks in a span of 10:45. The Bronco keeper turned away everything to keep the opposition off the scoreboard.

The match extended Flores' shutout streak to 411:25, a span she will carry in to the Mountain West Championship. Boise State qualified for the tournament with the win, its fourth straight.

The shutout was Flores' sixth of the season, the second most in a single season at Boise State and the most by a Bronco freshman. She finished the regular season as the Mountain West leader in goals-against average (0.89) and save percentage (.833).

Boise State begins its run at the conference tournament Tuesday, against New Mexico. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. (PT) from San Diego.
