BOISE, Idaho (11/1/2009) - Boise State University’s soccer team will play Fresno State at 3:00 p.m. (Mountain) on Thursday in the first round of the WAC Tournament being held in Boise this week. The league’s championship tournament features the top-six teams in the regular season standings with the top two getting first round byes into the semifinals.
After defeating San Jose State, the regular season champions, 1-0 this afternoon in Boise the Broncos officially tied with the University of Nevada for third-place in the Western Athletic Conference regular season standings with 5-3-0 league records. The Broncos get the number three seed based on the league’s tie-breaking procedure of head-to-head competition, Boise State defeated Nevada 2-0 in Boise earlier this year. Fresno State enters the tournament as the number six seed after going 4-4-0 in conference play.
Nevada will face New Mexico State University (4-3-1) in the first match of the tournament Thursday at 12:30 p.m. San Jose State (5-1-2) and Utah State University (5-2-1) finished first and second respectively and earned the two byes into the second round on Friday. The WAC’s championship tournament will be held at Boise State’s Boas Tennis and Soccer Complex on South Oakland Avenue this Thursday through Sunday.
