Blanchard Named Defensive Player of the Week

Boise State redshirt senior goalkeeper Megan Blanchard was named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 28, the conference announced Monday. Blanchard delivered a shutout Saturday, against Nevada to lift the Broncos to a 1-0 win.

Blanchard, making her first appearance of the 2012 season, received the start in goal in Boise State's 1-0 victory over the Wolf Pack during the regular-season finale. The win boosted the Broncos to a tie for second place in the conference standings.

Nevada attempted 14 shots and added pressure with eight corner kicks in the contest. Blanchard made four saves, including a tip save over the crossbar in the 52nd minute, to earn her first-career shutout and win. The match marked just the seventh outing of the Fresno, Calif., native's four-year career as a Bronco.

Boise State will carry the No. 3 seed into the Mountain West Championship in San Diego, where a rematch with Nevada awaits Wednesday, at 4 p.m. (PT).
