Flores Collects Fifth POW Award
Oct. 24, 2016

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State junior goalkeeper Janelle Flores was named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 17-23, the conference announced Monday. It is Flores’ second award in the last three weeks and the school-record fifth of her career.

Flores is the first player in Boise State history to earn five weekly awards from any conference on offense or defense.

The Hesperia, Calif., native guided Boise State to four road points over the weekend with a 1-1 double-overtime draw at league-leader UNLV and a 2-0 win at Nevada. Flores posted a 0.45 goals-against average and made 19 saves across 200 minutes.

Flores faced 58 shots on the weekend, including 20 on target, but allowed just one goal for a 0.950 save percentage. She made a career-high 12 saves against UNLV. The shutout against Nevada is her fifth of conference play, a school record for clean sheets in a conference season. Flores, who has played every minute of conference play, is the 10th goalkeeper in MW history to record five shutouts in a conference slate.

Flores and Boise State will close the regular season Friday, hosting Utah State. The match kicks off at 4 p.m. MT at Boas Soccer Complex. The Broncos and Aggies enter the week tied for fourth in the conference standings with 18 points.
