COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State goalkeeper Liz Ruiz was named Mountain West Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Ruiz shared the honor with Wyoming goalie Courtney Merkle.
Ruiz, who was making her return from an injury, played an instrumental role in the Broncos' 1-0 win over preseason favorite San Diego State, Sunday. The Boise, Idaho native made six saves and faced 15 shots in her fourth shutout win of the season. The match also marked the 27th win of the senior's career, sending her past Kim Parker as the winningest goalkeeper in Boise State history.
The conference honor is the third of her career, as she was named Western Athletic Conference Women' Soccer Defensive Player of the Week once in each of her sophomore and junior seasons.
UNLV junior midfielder Macy Jo Harrison was selected as the Mountain West Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
The women's soccer team will return home to wrap up conference play this weekend with matches against TCU and New Mexico. The games are scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., respectively.
