SAN JOSE, California (10/6/06) San Jose State bumped up their offensive attack in the second half Friday night to claim a 3-0 victory over Boise State in the conference opener for both teams. The Spartans held the Broncos scoreless for only the second time this season as Boise State managed only two shots on goal in the match. Seniors Kristin Hall and Nicole Coleman led the Broncos offensively with one shot on goal each. Junior goalkeeper Michaela Morrison recorded a season high 10 saves, nine in the second half, in the match for Boise State.
San Jose State took the lead in the 28th minute when Nicole Irwin launched a high shot from 25 yards out over Morrison’s head for the 1-0 advantage. Irwin gave the Spartans some breathing room when she scored a second goal in the 73rd minute to put San Jose State up 2-0. The insurance strike came in the 83rd minute from Jackie Zabek when she headed a corner kick into the far-post for the final San Jose State 3-0 victory margin.
The loss drops Boise State to 5-5-1 overall and 0-1-0 in WAC play. The Broncos will return to action this Sunday when they host the defending WAC regular season champion Hawaii Rainbow Wahine (7-5-2, WAC 1-0-0) at 1:00 p.m. (mountain). Hawaii defeated Idaho (0-13-0, WAC 0-1-0) 4-0 Friday afternoon in Moscow, Idaho.
