Boise State soccer concludes nine-match road swing with 1-0 defeat at Wyoming?

Freshman keeper Liz Ruiz stopped nine-of-10 shots on goal by Wyoming.

LARAMIE, Wyoming (10/5/08) Boise State University’s soccer team closed a long nine-match road swing on a sour note Sunday afternoon in Laramie, Wyo., when they suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss at the hands of the University of Wyoming. The Cowgirls dominated the match outshooting the Broncos 10-to-zero in shots on goal.

However, Boise State managed to stay in the contest to the end with their freshman goalkeeper Liz Ruiz (Boise, Capital HS) stopping nine of Wyoming’s 10 shots on target.  Unfortunately, the Cowgirls did eventually manage to slip one past the Bronco keeper in the 72nd minute when Amanda Lathrop volleyed a rebound back into the Bronco net, the initial shot had deflected off the post back into the field of play.

The loss dropped Boise State to 7-4-1 overall and snapped a four-match win streak, they finished the nine-game road swing with a 5-4 mark. Meanwhile, Wyoming improved to 7-5-1 on the year. The Broncos will be back home for the first time in five weeks when they open Western Athletic Conference play this Friday when they host Louisiana Tech University (8-2-1) at 4:00 p.m., followed by Utah State University (5-7-1) on Sunday at 1:00p.m. Both matches will be played at Boise State’s Boas Tennis and Soccer Complex.
