Boise State's Lauren Hickok Named WAC Soccer Defensive Player of the Week?

It is the first career honor for the Bozeman, Mont., native.

BOISE, Idaho (9/28/2009) - Boise State’s Lauren Hickok has been named this week’s Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 21-27. It is the true-freshman’s first such career honor and the first for Boise State this year.

Hickok, a freshman defender from Bozeman, Mont. (Bozeman HS), earned tournament MVP honors at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic last week after anchoring the Boise State defense to a pair of shutouts. Hickok helped Boise State to the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic title with a 1-0-1 record as the Broncos recorded a scoreless draw versus UC Riverside followed by a 1-0 victory over Gonzaga. Hickok repeatedly turned away opponent's attacks into the Boise State defensive third as she helped the Broncos extended their undefeated streak to seven with the back-to-back shutouts. In addition to playing all 200 minutes over the weekend, she also took four shots placing three on goal.

Hawai'i's Britta Bourne was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week. Bourne recorded the game-winning goal in the 68th minute to give the Rainbow Wahine a 1-0 victory in the team's first match.
