Sherle Nabs POW Honor
Sept. 26, 2016

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State freshman Raimee Sherle was named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week Monday, after netting two game-winning goals over the weekend to get the Broncos off to a 2-0 start in league play. It is Sherle's first weekly honor and the first for Boise State this season.

Sherle scored two highlight-reel goals to lift Boise State to wins against Wyoming and Colorado State. The freshman put away a leaping volley from 18 yards in the 21st minute against the Cowgirls to provide the only goal of the match.

Sherle delivered the golden goal in overtime Sunday, against the Rams. She dribbled through traffic down the left side of the box before curling in a shot from a tight angle near the end line.

The game winner against the Rams came on her ninth shot of the match, tied for the second most in school history. Sherle attempted 12 shots in the two matches, putting five on goal.

The Meridian, Idaho, native is the third Bronco freshman to earn an Offensive Player of the Week award in any conference and the first since Shannon Schueren in 2011 (Mountain West). Shannon Saxton took home the same award in the Western Athletic Conference three times as a freshman in 2007.

Sherle and the Broncos sit atop the Mountain West standings after one week. Boise State joins San Diego State, San Jose State and Utah State as teams to post 2-0 marks last weekend. The Broncos will look to take the momentum on the road as they visit Colorado College (Friday, 3 p.m. MT) and Air Force (Sunday, noon MT).
