Harris and Oehring score for Broncos in loss.

GREELEY, Colo. (9/26/2010) - Northern Colorado scored with five seconds left in regulation to hand Boise State a 3-2 defeat in Greeley, Colo., Sunday afternoon. After battling back from a two goal deficit, the Broncos fell victim to a last minute 40-yard bomb that sailed into the upper left corner of goal giving the Bears a dramatic victory over Boise State. The Bronco rally was lead by an Ebie Harris goal in the 41st minute cutting the early deficit before halftime, while Katy Oehring’s 73rd minute strike tied it midway through the final period. Boise State closed the nonconference portion of its schedule Sunday afternoon with a 3-7-1 record.

Northern Colorado opened the match with a quick score 46 seconds into the contest when Danielle Birdsall broke free for a one-v-one with Boise State’s keeper, Liz Ruiz, eventually scoring in the first minute of action.

Up one, the Bears extended their advantage in the 26th minute when Ariel Cook passed the ball into the box where it was deflected to Brittani Knott who headed the ball into the lower-right corner of the goal for a 2-0 Northern Colorado lead.

Boise State began its rally before halftime when Janelle Jin crossed the ball to sophomore-transfer Ebie Harris inside the box. Harris then beat the Northern Colorado keeper, Kirstin Salminen, with a header to the lower right-hand corner of goal. Harris’ first career goal cut Boise State’s deficit to one at halftime.

Down one, Boise State pulled even midway through the second period when freshman Katy Oehring took a Jin pass towards goal beating the defense to score at the 72:26 mark knotting the match at two all with less than 17 minutes to play in regulation. Oehring’s third goal of the season makes her the team’s leading scorer heading into conference action this coming week. Janelle Jin was credited with both Boise State assists in the contest.

With time running out in regulation and overtime looking immanent, UNC’s Olivia Deadmond took a throw-in from just inside the midfield line and threw it to Kimmie Feidler. The junior midfielder turned and struck the ball from 40 yards out that sailed over the defense into the upper-left corner of the net. All Ruiz could do for Boise State was watch as the ball sailed over her head and just inside the crossbar, giving the Bears the victory.

Unfortunately, luck has not been with the Broncos in close contests this year, for the second game in a row Boise State was the more dominant team offensively out shooting their host, this time 11-to-eight in shots on goal, but could not get the win. Next up for Boise State is the conference opener at the University of Hawai’i this Friday in Honolulu. Northern Colorado improves to 7-3-1 with the victory.
