Boise State Travels To #20 California For Lone Match Of The Week...

The Broncos only have one match this weekend but it is a big one on the road at nationally ranked California (5-1-2). The Golden Bears are ranked #20 by NSCAA/adidas, #13 by SoccerTimes.com, and #19 by Soccer Buzz in this week’s national polls. The match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (pacific) Friday afternoon in Berkeley, California. It will also mark the second time in Boise State’s short history that they have met a top-25 team. The first was last year when the Broncos traveled to then #11 Texas A&M where they lost 2-0.

Boise State Enters Week At 4-3-0...

The Broncos enter the week at 4-3-0 overall and are coming off a disappointing weekend where they lost a pair of matches in Reno, Nevada to UC-Davis (2-1) and Wyoming (2-1). Boise State is led by junior Katie Keller with three goals, followed by Kristin Hall, Erin Wofford, and Nicole Tadman with two goals apiece.

Boise State returned ten starters and 19 letterwinners from last year’s 10-8-2 team that went 4-3-0 in league play to finish in sixth place, one win out of first place. Head coach Steve Lucas enters his seventh season in charge of the Broncos and ninth overall with the program. He has a 48-60-9 record at the school, it is also his all-time career collegiate record as a head coach.

Sept. 22: Boise State at #20 California (5-1-2, PAC-10 0-0-0)...

This is the first meeting ever between Boise State and California of the Pacific-10 Conference. California enters the week at 5-1-2 overall and ranked #20 in the NSCAA/adidas poll. They are coming off a split last weekend losing at Ohio State 1-0 then defeated Dayton 2-0 on the road. The Golden Bears have scored eight goals this season led by Valerie Barnes with two, six others have recorded one goal on the year.

Cal returned five starters and 21 letterwinners from the 2005 squad that went 16-4-2 overall, 7-1-1 in league to place second in the PAC-10, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament before losing in the first round to Florida State. Kevin Boyd is in his 10th year at California where he has accumulated a 117-59-17 overall record.

Boise State Vs. Pacific-10 Conference...

Friday’s match at California will by the fourth game all-time against the PAC-10 for Boise State. The Broncos have yet to break through against the league losing all three matches to date to members schools. Boise State has played Oregon (L 4-1), Oregon State (L 2-1 dot), and Washington State (L 2-0) to date.

Boise State Is Approaching the End Of Five Game Road Swing...

Friday’s match at California will by the fourth of five consecutive matches on the road for Boise State where they have gone 1-2-0 so far. Following this week’s match at California the Broncos will travel again next week for a Friday (Sept. 29) contest at Sacramento State before returning home for the first time in three weeks. Boise State will host TCU on Sunday, October 1 in the final tune-up before WAC action begins on October 6 at San Jose State.
