Boise State Plays to 1-1 Draw With North Dakota State....
BOISE, Idaho (9/18/2009) - After two overtime periods and 110 minutes of battling Boise State’s and North Dakota State’s soccer teams settled for a 1-1 draw in the second match of the Soccer Etc.-Nike Invitational Friday afternoon in Boise. Cheyenne Jones gave the Broncos a lead early in the second half, 49th minute, only to see the Bison get the tie on a Boise State own goal in the 73rd.

The first half was evenly played with both teams having opportunities but failed to get the ball across the goal line. Boise State held the advantage in shots overall by a seven-to-six margin, however, North Dakota State was up four-to-three in shots on goal.

The Broncos’ best chance to score in the opening 45 minutes came in the 32nd when Ashley Walsh fired a hard shot from distance that was saved by Kalani Bertsch when she stretched to touch it off the cross bar. The deflection fell back into the field of play where Boise State’s Chelsea Robinson volleyed it back at goal only to see Bertsch recover in time to smother the shot to preserve the draw.

Boise State started the second half fast taking the lead in the 49th minute. The scoring play began when the Broncos Cheyenne Jones ran onto a pass down the left flank then drove past a defender. Jones found herself unmarked when she fired a high lob shot from 30 yards out that sailed inside the far post giving the home team a 1-0 advantage.

North Dakota State rallied in the 73rd minute when they forced the action into the Bronco defensive third. After Boise State had won possession of the ball following a Bison foul. The Broncos turned the ball over deep on the right wing that resulted in a NDSU high cross into the Boise State six-yard box that deflected off a defender and into goal tying the match at one apiece.

Boise State out shot North Dakota State 14-to-five in the second half and seven-to-four in shots on goal.
