Broncos and Wildcats End in 0-0 Draw

Sep 6, 2013

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State soccer team hosted the Weber State Wildcats on Friday night. Friday's game was the second-straight double overtime game for the Broncos after facing Washington State the night before. Despite the Broncos controlling the majority of the second half, the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

Both teams played evenly in the first half, but the Broncos brought the heat in the second. Seniors Rebe Wolverton and Gabby Garcia made significant contributions to keep Bronco attacks alive. Boise State recorded ten shots in the second half, improving from two in the first. Wolverton made a great play at the Weber State goal and got a point-blank shot off, but the Wildcat keeper made a quick save to preserve the 0-0 score.

"We expect our group of players to be fit," said head coach Jim Thomas. They played 220 minutes in less than 24 hours and I couldn't be more proud of the effort they put forward. I think the frustrating part as the coach is you want to congratulate them for the win and not for the tie. After halftime our players came out with so much faith in what we were doing. I'm so proud of them. We're undefeated in three matches and that's huge. We went in to our games last week with a sub-.500 record and now we are at .500. If they can play 220 minutes in 24 hours then they will never fear 90 minutes again. We have to pull the trigger in the future and make correct decisions once we've created great opportunities.

Boise State will play their next six games on the road starting with North Dakota State on Sept. 13. The Broncos next home game is Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. against Wyoming at Boas Soccer Complex.
